Classical trigeminal neuralgia without persistent background facial pain.

Diagnostic criteria:
  1. Recurrent paroxysms of unilateral facial pain fulfilling criteria for Classical trigeminal neuralgia
  2. Pain-free between attacks in the affected trigeminal distribution.
Comment: Classical trigeminal neuralgia, purely paroxysmal is usually responsive, at least initially, to pharmacotherapy (especially carbamazepine or oxcarbazepine).
